This PICtail Plus Motor Control Daughter Card interfaces with Explorer 16 (DM240001) and the HV/LV Power Module (DM300021 and DM300022). It has a variety of test points that will make debugging of your application easier. It also has hardware support for sensor and sensor-less applications such as Hall sensors, optical encoder, back EMF and current sensing. This uses dsPIC33F device family for the MC development as opposed to the DM300020 that targets dsPIC30F for the MC application development. This board comes with a Motor Control 100-pin Plug In Module to be used on the Explorer 16 board.

The Microchip dsPICDEM™ MCHV-2 Development System is intended to aid the user in the rapid evaluation and development of a wide variety of motor control applications using a dsPIC® Digital Signal Controller (DSC). This development system is targeted to control Brushless DC (BLDC) motors, Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM), and AC Induction Motors (ACIM) in sensor or sensorless operation. This flexible and cost-effective tool can be configured in different ways for use with Microchip’s specialized motor control DSCs. The dsPICDEM™ MCHV-2 Development System supports the dsPIC33F and dsPIC33E Motor Control device family and offers a mounting option to connect either a 28-pin SOIC device or a generic 100-pin Plug-In Module (PIM). The system has a three-phase power module device that contains the motor inverter and the gate driver’s circuitry. The circuit drives a BLDC, PMSM, or ACIM motor using different control techniques without requiring any additional hardware. The MCHV-2 supports using either the internal opamps found on certain dsPIC33E products or the external opamps found on the MCHV-2 board for current sensing. It also has Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuitry to meet power regulatory requirements.

The rated continuous output current from the inverter is 6.5A (RMS). This allows up to approximately 2 kVA output when running from a 208V to 230V single-phase input voltage in a maximum 30ºC (85ºF) ambient temperature environment. Therefore, the system is ideally suited for running a standard 3-Phase Induction Motor of up to 1.4 kW (1.8 HP) rating or a slightly higher rated industrial servo-motor. The power module is capable of driving other types of motors and electrical loads that do not exceed the maximum power limit and are predominantly inductive. Furthermore, single-phase loads can be driven using one or two of the inverter outputs. The unit is capable of operating from 90V up to a maximum of 265V.

The MCHV-2(DM330023-2) replaces the previous MCHV (DM330023) and is fully backwards compatible with the previous MCHV(DM330023) and all motor control PIMs.

An all-in-one debugger/programmer solution: MPLAB® ICD 2 is a low cost, real-time debugger and programmer for selected PIC® MCUs and dsPIC® DSCs. Using Microchip Technology's proprietary In-Circuit Debug functions, programs can be downloaded, executed in real time and examined in detail with the debug functions of MPLAB. Set watch variables and breakpoints from symbolic labels in C or assembly source code, and single step through C source lines or into assembly code. MPLAB ICD 2 can also be used as a development programmer for supported MCUs.


The secret behind In Circuit Debugging is two dedicated hardware lines (microcontroller pins used only during debugging mode) that control In Circuit Serial Programming™ (ICSP™) of the device and, afterwards, debugging through proprietary, on-chip firmware. The ICD 2 debug features are built into the microcontroller and activated by programming the debug code into the target processor. There is some shared overhead expense that includes one stack level, some general purpose file registers and a small area of program memory when in the debug mode.
IMPORTANT NOTE: MPLAB ICD 2 requires minimal design guidelines be followed to ensure stable communications between the unit and the target.

The MPLAB ICD 2 connects using USB or RS-232 between the design engineer's PC operating with MPLAB IDE and their product board (target) being developed. It acts as an intelligent interface/translator between the two, allowing the engineer to look into the active target board's microcontroller, viewing variables and registers at breakpoints with MPLAB watch windows. A breakpoint can be set to halt the program at a specific location. The program can be single-stepped or run at full speed. At breakpoints, data and program memory can be read and modified. Additionally, the MPLAB ICD 2 can be used to program or reprogram the Flash-based microcontroller while installed on the board.

This EZ-Extender is a daughter board that extends the capabilities of certain EZ-KIT developments boards, facilitating connection of Blackfin BF52x, BF53x and BF54x family processors to a landscape LCD. It connects to the ADSP-BF526 EZ-Board / EZ-KIT Lite, ADSP-BF537 EZ-KIT Lite, ADSP-BF538 EZ-KIT Lite, and the ADSP-BF548 EZ-KIT Lite development boards over their EI2 interfaces.

Supporting a 3.5” landscape QVGA (320x240) display from SHARP which can operate at VDDIO from 1.6V to 3.6V, it facilitates both normal and low power applications. The low cost touchscreen controller for this display is the Analog Devices AD7879, a small 16 pin LFCSP package ideal for low power applications.

The EZ-Extender employs the Analog Devices AD7147-1 programmable controller designed for use with capacitance touch sensors. The capacitance controller interfaces to the Blackfin processor over a simple two wire interface (TWI). The other end of the controller interfaces to external capacitance sensors such as capacitive buttons, scroll bars, and scroll wheels. No external power supply is required for the EZ-Extender.

Note: The Blackfin Landscape EZ-Extender has limited compatibility with the ADSP-BF537 EZ-KIT Lite. Below are the following limitations:

  • The Sharp LCD and the AD7879 (LCD Touch Controller) can be used together or the Sharp LCD and the AD7147-1 (Capacitance Touch Controller) can be used together.
  • The AD7879, AD7147-1, and the Sharp Display cannot all be used simultaneously.
  • This is due to limited GPIO availability on the BF537 Stamp PPI Interface.
  • All other supported products (BF526, BF538, and BF548 EZ-KITs) allow a user to use all three simultaneously.

The ADSP-CM40x Evaluation Hardware provides a low cost hardware solution for evaluating the Analog Devices ADSP-CM40x mixed-signal control processor family, and consists of the ADSP-CM403F and ADSP-CM408F EZ-Boards, J-LINK LITE ARM debug probe from Segger and optional probing boards .

The ADSP-CM403F EZ-KIT Lite and ADSP-CM408F EZ-KIT Lite include all hardware necessary to immediately begin evaluation.

The ADSP-CM403F EZ-Board and the ADSP-CM408F EZ-Board can also be purchased separately, if a debug probe is already available to the customer.

The ADSP-CM40x Board Design Database contains all of the electronic information required for the design, layout, fabrication and assembly of the ADSP-CM40x EZ-Boards, and is available to download from the Products Download area on this page.

Two expansion connectors are available for connecting probing boards that extend the system’s evaluation capabilities:

  • Analog 120-Pin Probing Board - The board provides probing points for any analog signal of the 120-pin expansion interface connector.
  • PWM 180-Pin Probing Board - The board provides probing points for any PWM/digital signal of the 180-pin expansion interface connector.

IAR Embedded Workbench is a complete high-performance C/C++ compiler and debugger toolchain that incorporates a compiler, an assembler, a linker and a debugger into one easy-to-use IDE. It is required for development and purchased directly from IAR Systems. Free evaluation versions are available for download.

The CM40x Enablement Software package provides C language programming environment and Application Programming Interface (API) supporting a quick and easy functional interface to the Analog’s ADSP-CM40x mixed-signal control processor family products. The API abstracts the low-level details of various peripherals (Controller Registers, DMA Engine and Interrupt Controller) into a simple, easy-to-use programming model. It comes in source form with various example programs to shorten your application’s time to market. Current and future versions of the software are available free of charge and always downloadable from here.

The software and documentation pack for the J-Link LITE ARM is available directly from Segger and requires entry of the serial number displayed on the back of the probe to activate it.

For applications that require use of the Ethernet or USB peripherals, the ADZS-CM40x family is supported by Micrium's uC/TCP-IP and uC/USB Device ARM M-Series solutions. Both of these items require use of uC/OS-III® RTOS and all must be purchased directly from Micrium.

The ADSP-TS201S EZ-KIT Lite provides developers with a cost-effective method for initial evaluation of the ADSP-TS201S TigerSHARC® Processor and its multiprocessing capabilities. This EZ-KIT Lite includes two ADSP-TS201S processors on a desktop evaluation board along with fundamental debugging software to facilitate architecture evaluations via a USB-based PC-hosted tool set. With this EZ-KIT Lite, users can learn more about ADI’s ADSP-TS201S hardware and software development environments and quickly prototype applications. The ADSP-TS201S EZ-KIT Lite provides an evaluation suite of the VisualDSP++ development and debugging environment with the C/C++ compiler, assembler, and linker. Via the USB interface, VisualDSP++ can communicate with the included software debug agent enabling users to perform standard debugging functions (such as read and write memory, read and write registers, load and execute executables, set and clear breakpoints, and single-step assembly, C, and C++ source code) and multiprocessor functions (such as synchronous step, synchronous run, and synchronous halt). The evaluation versions of the included software tools have limited use with the EZ-KIT Lite.

The EZ-KIT Lite’s default EPROM boot mode enables the board to be used as a standalone unit without the requirement for a PC-host. If desired, the board can boot from an optional external host port interface connector, link port or “No Boot” based on jumper selections. The EZ-KIT Lite also includes a FLASH utility that can be used to download user specific boot code to the on-board FLASH memory using the USB interface

The dsPIC33EP512MU810 Dual Motor Control Plug-In Module (PIM) is designed to facilitate the development of Motor Control applications using two motors and one Digital Signal Controller (DSC). Two Microchip dsPICDEM™ motor control development boards can be used with this PIM to control 3-phase BLDC, PMSM, ACIM or 2-phase stepper motors. A flexible cable connects the two boards together and routes all signals to the appropriate pins on the DSC. The configuration of the cable and signals was carefully chosen to support a wide range of dual motor configuration application notes written for the dsPICDEM™ MCLV, MCHV, and MCSM Development Boards.
