The TIDA-00151 reference design contains a PGA450-Q1 which is a system on Chip (SOC) sensor interface IC for automotive Ultrasonic sensors. It provides all signal conditioning and processing for the transducer echo signals and for calculating the distance between the transducer and objects. MCU and program memory allow for full configurability for the specific end application. Application examples are ultrasonic park assist, self parking, blind spot detection and valet parking. The design files for a small form factor board are included in this design, but thePGA450Q1EVM board was used to collect the test data.

The TIDA-00403 reference design uses off-the-shelf EVMs for ultrasonic distance measurement solutions using algorithms within the TLV320AIC3268 miniDSP. In conjunction with TI’s PurePath Studio design suite, a robust and user configurable ultrasonic distance measurement system can be designed with the click of a mouse. The ultrasonic burst generation characteristics as well as detection algorithms can be user modified to fit specific use cases in industrial and measurement applications allowing users to overcome the limitations of other fixed function sensors while simultaneously increasing reliability of the measurements. Two GPIOs on the TLV320AIC3268 are automatically triggered indicating a transmitted and received ultrasonic burst. With a host MCU monitoring these GPIOs, the time of flight can be extracted.

The TIDA-00462 ultrasonic distance measurement reference design can measure the distance up to 99 inches with an accuracy of ±1.5 inches. The scope of this design guide is to give system designers a head-start in integrating TI’s industrial ultra-low-power MCU, analog signal conditioning, and power management technologies into their end-equipment systems. This design guide describes the principle of operation and basic design process for a low cost distance measuring system based on ultrasonic sound utilizing the MSP430 ultralow-power microcontroller. This design guide also addresses component selection, design theory, and test results of the TI Design system. All the relevant design files like Schematics, BOM, Layer plots, Altium files, Gerber and MSP430 MCU firmware are provided.
