PMP10035 is a sycnchronous buck converter with 48V input voltage and 31V output voltage. Due to ceramic capacitors only this design is suitable for automotive applications (48V bus). With switching frequency of 400kHz, the efficiency is higher than 96% at full load.

This wide input voltage range boost operates from an input of 9V - 32V and regulates current in two strings of 13 LEDs. A second control loop monitors and regulates the input current during drop outs or faults. Discrete linear regulators at the bottom of each string control the individual string current while feedback minimizes the output voltage based on the LED voltage mismatch or shorts. This low cost design operates at near 94% efficiency.

This TI design showcases proximity sensitivity using TI's FDC1004 EVM for an automotive kick to open application within a plastic bumper. This TI design also showcases test results that include exposure to mud and water on the bumper to determine the impact of common environmental factors.

Input Offset Capacitance up to 100pF the large offset capacitance capability allows for the use of remote sensors and allows the use of long cables. It also allows tracking and compensating for environmental changes over time, i.e. temperature and humidity. Two channels shield drive up to 400pF the large shield drive can reduce environmental interferences such as EMI, noise and proximity from undesired targets and help focus the sensing direction of a capacitive sensor, thus enhancing its resolution. Effective resolution (noise floor) of 16 bits allowing far object sensing with a small, inexpensive conductive sensor. Four measurement channels multiple channels allows multiple applications where one channel can be used as environmental sensor to track and compensate for environmental (e.g. temperature, humidity) changes. Small 3mmx3mm footprint enableing using the device in space constrained applications.

The TIDA-01183 TI Design details a solution on how to use pulse width modulation (PWM) to dim an automotive headlight or tail light with a precision of better than 2% duty cycle without the necessity of using a micro controller. This allows the design to be very cost competitive. Devices used in this design are the TPS92691-Q1 multi-topology LED Driver in boost and boost to battery configuration controlling the LEDs. The TLC555-Q1 LinCMOS timer, together with the OPA2377-Q1 operational amplifier, measure and generate an accurate PWM signal by applying a feedback loop and a precision shunt regulator for setting the duty cycle accurately. The designs input stage is EMI/EMC filtered and can be directly supplied by the cars battery.

The TIDA-01381 TI Design details a solution on how to drive a string of matrix LED headlights, measure the temperature of the LEDs, and implement support for thermal foldback, which reduces the current in the LEDs as the LED temperature rises to prevent damage to the LEDs. The design uses TI temperature sensing solutions instead of negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors in order to reduce the number of components, number of physical wires, and reduce number of pins used on microcontroller. This TI Design should be interfaced with a microcontroller to do the thermal foldback current derating of the LEDs.
